As most of you know Im building some of the Best E85 carburetors on the market, My carburetors are winning track championships as well as many heads up race events.
I think its safe to say I know E85 and how to build a good carburetor....
I realize that sometimes mistakes can be made, it happens. I am not without flaws, and sometimes stuff does happen that I have no control over and when it does happen I do my best to correct the problems.....trying to providing excellent customer service.
recently I have encountered a situation where I did a carburetor for a guy and he had some issues.....
HE called me complaining about the carburetor not working and being fat and lazy in the mid range and not pulling up top.
I jump on it and tried to offer help....
then I find out that he had also asked several others for advice and then did what he wanted to do on his own.
I built him his carb and as always I tell people to keep the timing and spark plugs the same as they would be on gas.
But he choose NOT to listen to my advice, and he listened to another builder (a methanol guy) and retarded his timing and installed colder plugs....
and when it didnt work....then My carburetor was to blame.
his issues were not in the carburetor but actually a spark issue where the flame was being snuffed out by the fuel.
it wasnt the fact that after he recieved his carburetor that he turned his timing down to 32* or that he is running a plug 3 steps colder than what he should be, and that he played with the jetting and air bleeds attempting to make it run with his colder plugs and retarded timing..
...He says my carb was wrong and I needed to make it right.
Again without knowing that he made the plug and timing changes I started offering good customer service and making suggestions, and sending him parts to make his carburetor work as it was intended to.
He asked me for advice, and I told him what he needed to do, up front and then again after he started messing with it...then he still didnt listen.
I deal with E85 every day, I know this fuel, I know how it works, and I also know what it takes to make it fast and consistant...
IF I build you a carb and I tell you to run XX heat range plug and timing set at this....im telling you this for a reason...and its probibly because I and my customers have been there and done that.
nothing bothers me more than to have to send people NEW parts assuming they LISTENED to me only to find out after the fact that they were doing their own thing and not following the advice they asked for.
Im here to help you, and everyone with E85....I will do what I can to make your carburetor the best E85 Carburetor out there....period.
but dont insult me or waste my time by asking me for advice, and then not following it....
I asked him again what his plugs were and where his timing was set at.....after several months of phone calls and many sent parts do I find out that he changed the engine (timing & plugs)
I will fix this carburetor back to the origonal specs, and make sure that it is within the correct specs for his engine.......if there is an issue this time it is not the carb!
and the owner will need to look elsewhere for his problems.
I ask you, please. If your not going to listen to my advice...dont ask for it?
Im only as good as the information im provided with....
Im here to help you to learn and know about E85......If you are willing to listen, I'm willing to help!
I dont mean to rant and rave, I just want happy satisfied customers that enjoy racing on E85....so If I offer a suggestion, or I tell you something, know that its coming from years of testing and knowlege of this fuel.
Thank you to all of those that do call me and keep me updated on your results....and please remember to tell a friend about Mark Sullens E85 Carburetors.
