Recently I got a PM from a friend and fellow E85 carb builder who told me that one of my customers had contacted him about an issue with a carb that I built.
WOW...
This same customer contacted me and complained about how I set my floats, and asked why I turn my sight plugs around backwards so that they cant set the float level,,,,,my answer was in not so nice words..." that people pay me to do a job and I turn them around so that the customers dont mess with the settings"
What I failed to realize was that this customer had in fact already flipped the sight plugs around to a normal position, checked the float level and lowered the needle & seat....thus screwing up the calibration I had tuned into the carburetor.
When I told him to put the floats back to where I had them set, he obviously didnt like my answer and thought that the E85 should be set like gasoline was back in 1963, (origonal holley sight level) so he called someone else for their OPINION.
Doesnt it make sense that If your going to pay me to build your E85 carb .....let me do my job and assist you in your tune, and dont change it unless we talk first!
After all there is a reason why you came to me in the first place!
The floats are set differently than you would set a gasoline float, I set them on a running engine stand before I ship the carb, IF you feel the need to make a change you should contact me about making the change before you do it....allow me to be there to assist you.
I do realize that this is your carburetor, and it is yours to do with what you choose to do.....but If you change the adjustments before you ever drive the car, how can you be upset with me for it not working when your the one that made the changes?
Most of us dont go out and buy a dyno tuned "Huntsville Racing Engine" and when we get it home change the cam timing before we run the car...why would you change something that you just paid good money to be fixed without trying it first?
I have a bunch of carburetors out there that have nothing more changed on them than the IDLE SPEED....and they are working just fine.
As for my customer going somewhere else for advise,...its his carb and his money spent....he can do with it what he wants, but If he comes back to me Im going to charge him to fix it....
as long as you dont make adjustments on it without contacting me....Carburetor Issues will be MY PROBLEM.
Screw with the settings before you run it. yeah, still MY PROBLEM....as my name is on the carb.
please listen to MY tuning advise and contact me before making any tuning moves....
Thank you, Mark Sullens.
